Meet Andrew, my latest senior! Andrew is a quiet guy with some passionate hobbies- he’s a writer, a classic rock aficionado, and an accomplished guitar player- so we went with a rock-n’-roll feel for a lot of these, completed by Andrew’s fun Hendrix hat and gorgeous guitar. As a bonus, we got to do this shoot 2 days before Joplin’s latest snowstorm hit– when the temperature was just right and the sky was that perfect shade of blue.
You know well by now that I am not a model photographer by trade. I recently got a little more experience with shooting models, however, with a little photographers’ get-together hosted by the extremely talented Brian DeMint of eyeworks photography. Brian has become a friend and also works out of Joplin. I’m still blown away by his amazing potfolio of artistic model images.
Brian, me, and fellow local photographers Josh Carter & Kelsey Sanders talked shop and took our turns taking pictures of the lovely models (Heather and Jeniffer) in Brian’s studio. It was really fun meeting the group, as well as Brian’s equally talented wife Dena, the brains behind the makeup and wardrobe. Thanks to the models for letting us work with them, to Brian for letting us hang out in his studio, to Dena for the makeup, and to Josh for letting us play with his ringlight, a very fun toy that I definitely plan to put on my ‘to buy’ list later down the line!
The shots in this post are a mix of candids (Josh playing with Brian’s studio props, Brian shooting, and one of the models at the makeup table- I can’t do a shoot without a little of the journalist in me surfacing) and the more ‘serious’ shots I got of the models. Different, but fun!
So back on November 1st, I told you all about a little something called whiskerino. I would go and explain it all again, but instead I’m just giving you the link to the original post here so you can refresh. ‘You’re lucky I’m reading this post, you idiot’, you might be saying to yourself, in which case I’ll just say that all you need to know is I was part of a 4 month online beard growing competition. And (almost) every day of that 4 months, I included my (now) 1 year old son in the shot.
I oh-so-humbly confess that these pictures gained popularity within the site, not so much for photography skills but really just for Harry’s cute factor. It’s all over now- I’ve since trimmed the beard and the useless moments of my life have been given back over to facebook in place of the internet beard community, but the memories will always be there. I might even make a book…
Below are a few of my favorites from the series. Much thanks to my lovely wife Autumn for her help drawing those faces out of our expressive son Harry and for snapping the shots when I just couldn’t do it all myself.
Want to see more than this? Just go to my whiskerino archive for the full set.
The wedding season started off with a bang. You already met Lance and Tara (here) last winter when they had their engagement pictures done- and the wedding day itself was amazing. It was hard to narrow it down to the few shots shown below, especially with as many pictures as I had of the amazing dance party that followed during the reception. If you’d like to see more, visit a larger sampling from the day on my facebook page (here)
